| VPL SPONSORS BEHAVIOR SEMINAR AT 2012 NAVC CONFERENCE |
How Stress Affects Health and Behavior in Dogs Diagnosis, Management and Enrichment Strategies Presented by: Drs. Gary Landsberg and Sagi Denenberg
PHOENIX – December 15, 2011 – Many veterinarians and pet owners who have dealt with a dog exhibiting stress-related behavior issues know it can be heartbreaking to watch them without being able to stop the cycle. All too frequently a “quick-fix” to pet behavior problems doesn’t get to the root cause of the problem or provide a long term solution. A veterinarian is often the one called on to help strengthen the failing human-animal bond so the dog may remain in the family. On Sunday, January 15 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., Veterinary Products Laboratories (VPL) will sponsor a behavior seminar – How Stress Affects Health and Behavior in Dogs – Diagnosis, Management and Enrichment Strategies – during the 2012 NAVC Conference in the Miami Room at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Fla. Drs. Gary Landsberg and Sagi Denenberg team up to discuss: how stress can affect many systems in dogs and lead to behavior disorders; strategies for prevention and treatment of stress when applied to animal welfare; treatment of stress with a focus on dealing with underlying stressors and behavior modification; and evidence-based medications and supplements to reduce stress, including a supplement, Harmonease® Chewable Tablets, that can provide a long term solution. Gary Landsberg. BSc, DVM, Dipl ACVB, dip ECVBM-CA, is a board certified veterinary specialist who offers behavior consultation services for owners of pets with behavior problems and has coauthored a number of veterinary behavioral texts, including Handbook of Behavior Problems of the Dog and Cat (2nd edition, 2003). Sagi Denenberg, DVM, MACVSc (Veterinary Behavior), ECVBM-CA eligible, has conducted a number of behavioral studies including the effects of pheromones on learning and socialization in puppies and a study of play toy preference in cats for which he was awarded the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior student award. The final program will list the assigned room. Refreshments will be served and there will be time for questions. Stop by the VPL Booth 2110/2112 for additional information and special offers. Dr. Landsberg will be available in the VPL Booth to answer questions about tough patient behavior cases Monday, January 16 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and Tuesday, January 17, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
